Dang, that's sad :( Bald Eagle population is luckily growing, but they're still rare, as far as I know :(. Such a shame for such an amazing creature.

That story is neat, really. It's nature's way. The interviening of men is causing most of the problems. Nature has it's own ways to balance itself, however men tend to ruin it. If the Herons mass attacked the eagle, than it was natures way. If it was a Heron fanatic, than he should be shot on sight ( ;) ).
Nice story, thanks :D

Me wants more eagle pics :P

OK, you've found most of my Bald Eagle shots and given them :+fav: s as well. Thank you!! I'm glad you've enjoyed my eagles. Our eagle population is growing again and that's great. They've started spreading out in the Puget Sound area more, so we get to see them more often. A couple of years ago, I was assisting with a Great Blue Heron colony (heronry) nearby. One spring, a pair of Bald Eagles started to set up nesting in an older (unused) section of the heronry. The herons were visibly upset by this turn of events as Eagles often raid heron nests for the eggs and nestlings. One night, the female Bald Eagle died on the nest. The three theories (none proven) - 1. The eagle died from disease (unlikely as it appeared healthy the day before). 2. The Eagle was shot by some Heron fanatic (unlikely, as birders don't shoot birds...) 3. The herons mass attacked the Eagle on it's nest and killed it (just a theory). The male brought a second female to the nest (4 year old - unlikely able to bear eggs as too young), together they broke up the dead body (some thought they were caniblizing, others thought disposing of the corpse - neither theory proven). Two pair eventually abandoned the nest and life returned to normal at the Heronry, but for a few weeks it was a very interesting turn of events, nature in action. Thought you might enjoy the story.

More :+fav: and more thanks! Still more baldies buried in that gallery! I like the series where a young baldie is attempting to take a gull out of Lake Washington, very lucky series! [link]
The young eagle didn't eat or kill the gull, but as the eagle flew away, a huge number of gulls took flight as if to say, Not me! I'm healthy too!
